First, Tennessee director of strength and conditioning Dave Lawson was relieved of his football duties. Now, he no longer works in the Vols’ athletic department at all.

That news comes via a statement from Ryan Robinson, the school’s senior associate athletic director on Friday. The news was first reported by former Tennessee receiver Jayson Swain, now a radio host in the state.

The Knoxville News-Sentinel’s Dustin Dopirak later reported that Robinson said the issue stemmed from “philosophical differences” between Lawson and the Vols’ coaching staff.

Dopirak added that Michael Szerszen, the associate director of strength coach, will retain his position and will oversee football. However, no one at the moment will fill the director spot vacated by Lawson.
