The Vanderbilt Commodores (2-6, 0-5 SEC) will host the Old Dominion Monarchs (3-5, 1-4 C-USA) Saturday at Vanderbilt Stadium. The Commodores look to bounce back from a 24-14 loss to Missouri in Week 9.

Entering last week’s game, Vanderbilt head coach Derek Mason promised to give leading rusher Ralph Webb more carries late in games. However, the redshirt freshman had just five carries in the third quarter and zero in the fourth, finishing with 34 yards on 16 attempts.

Webb enters Saturday’s game with 589 yards and two touchdowns on 138 rushing attempts. The Gainesville, Fla., native is on pace to break the school’s freshman rushing record of 798 yards set by Kwane Doster in 2002.

The tailback will have a perfect opportunity to regain his stride against a struggling opponent. Old Dominion enters Saturday’s game facing a four-game losing streak, including a 66-51 defeat by Western Kentucky last Saturday. The Monarchs have allowed 234.5 rushing yards per game, ranking No. 116 overall in rush defense.

Vanderbilt should see offensive success with either Johnny McCrary or Patton Robinette in at quarterback against an inferior opponent on Saturday. Each player has provided the Commodores with one of their two wins this season and has played efficient in several appearances.

Vanderbilt needs to find an early groove on offense in order to feed their running back more carries late into the contest. Webb should improve his recent stretch of disappointing performances by recording over 100 yards on Saturday. The Commodores need a convincing win against a lackluster opponent as a confidence booster moving forward.
