Vanderbilt plans on keeping Derek Mason happy in Nashville for the foreseeable future.

According to Adam Sparks of The Tennessean, Mason has agreed to a three-year extension and secured raises for several members of his coaching staff. Because Vanderbilt is a private institution, the school is not required to reveal specific details of the contract. When he first came to Nashville in 2014 following his stint as Stanford’s defensive coordinator, Mason was given a five-year deal.

Vanderbilt athletic director David Williams did offer these statements to Sparks.

“We went to a bowl game in his third year, but it’s not only that,” Williams said. “You could see the growth in the program overall. This year will be the first year that we actually have the type of depth that we would like to have, and I think Derek is a master at developing players.”

Along with raises for his staff, Mason has requested an increased budget into recruiting. According to the report, Vanderbilt met that request as well.

In his three years in Nashville, Mason has led Vanderbilt to a 13-24 overall record. During that span, Vandy is 5-19 in SEC play.
