The Vanderbilt Commodores, on the heels of a discouraging fall from consecutive nine-win seasons to a 3-9 campaign in 2014, made history on National Signing Day in adding four-star quarterback prospect Kyle Shurmur.

The Glenside, Pa., native is the highest-rated quarterback signee in school history, and he will enter a program with a great deal of uncertainty at the position, giving four different signal callers a start under center last season.

Three of those quarterbacks will return to compete with Shurmur for the starting job in 2015 — sophomores Johnny McCrary and Wade Freebeck, and injury-riddled junior Patton Robinette.
