Following the weekend arrest of Georgia sophomore Riley Ridley for marijuana possession, more details have been released on the rising receivers situation. Among the details, Ridley reportedly attempted to talk himself out of trouble by alerting police to his status as a Georgia athlete.

According to a report by Seth Emerson of Dawg Nation, police noted that Ridley was not alone when detained, he was with a 22-year-old female. She was the driver of the car when it was stopped by police, not Ridley.

After stopping the car, the police smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and called for backup. Following the call for support, Ridley attempted to do the same, asking officers to allow him to call someone, per the arrest report.

“Ridley explained that he was an athlete and he requested to call someone to help the traffic stop ‘go a whole lot smoother.’”

The Georgia receiver also apparently pleaded with the police to consider how they could be hurting his future.

Ridley made “several comments implying that the results of the traffic stop were going to hurt his career as an athlete.”

Upon searching the car, police found a joint, a grinder and a bag with a ‘green leafy substance’ in it.

Ridley is not expected to miss any significant amount of time following his arrest. Georgia opens the season in Athens Sept. 2 against Appalachian State before traveling to Notre Dame Sept. 9.
