Georgia pulled off another impressive win Saturday afternoon, heading to Nashville and blasting Vanderbilt 45-14.

The outcome was never in doubt, as they outclassed the Commodores at every turn.

On the heels of Florida’s loss to LSU later in the afternoon, the path is now clear for the Bulldogs to cruise to an SEC East title.

However, coach Kirby Smart’s team has higher expectations for the 2017 season, as the Bulldogs have their sights set on the College Football Playoff.

Here are a few reasons Georgia would have to be among the final four teams if the season were to end today:

See you later, Sooners

Helping the Bulldogs’ case for the College Football Playoff is the fact that Oklahoma — the No. 3 team in the country heading into Saturday’s action — fell at home to an unranked Iowa State team.

When you’re dealing with preseason rankings like the Bulldogs were, you need a little help from the top teams losing.

If the Sooners had continued to win out, even if they had done so less convincingly than Georgia, they would have most likely remained ahead in the polls.

Now that there’s an opening, Georgia will likely seize it. Then, it will be up to the Bulldogs to make sure they don’t stumble like the Sooners did.

Road warriors

Winning on the road is never easy, but the Bulldogs already have three strong road victories.

In freshman QB Jake Fromm’s first start, he led the Bulldogs to a 20-19 win over Notre Dame in South Bend.

Two weeks later, he led Georgia to a huge 41-0 win in Neyland Stadium in a game that many thought should have cost Tennessee coach Butch Jones his job.

Then, even though Vanderbilt Stadium felt more like Sanford Stadium on Saturday afternoon, the Bulldogs still took care of business.

Alabama and Clemson also have a couple of big road wins on their resumes, but Georgia is definitely among the four teams with the most impressive victories away from home.

Stifling defense

The Bulldogs might not have the big-name players that other top teams have on defense, but as a whole, there aren’t many defenses better than Kirby Smart’s unit.

In fact, the Bulldogs haven’t let an opponent score 20 points on them this season.

With games against Mizzou, Florida and South Carolina the next four weeks, that statistic is unlikely to change, as all three of those offenses have struggled against top competition this season.

Scoring 20 points against Florida’s defense won’t be easy, and the atmosphere at The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party is sure to be an electric one, but the Bulldogs should still be a heavy favorite in that game if they take care of business against Mizzou next weekend.

Margin of victory

For better or worse, the CFP voters seem to be impressed by blowout victories. Fortunately for the Bulldogs, they have plenty of them.

In fact, they’ve outscored opponents 210-60 this season — an impressive 150-point differential.

The only opponent to finish a game within three touchdowns of Georgia was Notre Dame, which lost 20-19 to the Bulldogs in Week 2.

If Smart’s squad can continue blowing opponents out, it’ll be hard for the CFP committee to keep the Bulldogs out of the top four.
