The date of when Ole Miss will find out the ruling from the NCAA Committee on Infractions has been bandied about for weeks. But Ole Miss Athletics Director Ross Bjork has taken exception to one theory extended by Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports.

At issue is how severe are the final sanctions following an investigation that has spanned several years with 21 allegations lodged against the Ole Miss football program. Ole Miss has contested nine of the 21 allegations, including failure to monitor and lack of institutional control, which are considered the most serious charges.

In an interview with Ole Miss Spirit, Bjork said it’s highly unlikely the opinion that the announcement will be made after the Egg Bowl is based on anything other than a guess.

“I think, one, whoever said that has no idea, unless they’re talking to, really, three people,” Bjork said. “There’s really only three people who know anything about the timeline, and those people are bound by strict, strict confidentiality. It would be highly, highly unlikely that that person would have any idea of whether it’s coming down before or after the Egg Bowl.

“I think it’s guessing at best and, in some ways, sort of irresponsible to throw that timeline out there when that timeline does not fit any sort of precedent. Now, could it happen after the Egg Bowl? Sure. And could that person be right by guessing? Absolutely. Look, whatever it is, it will be the finish line. It will allow us to move forward with great clarity that this thing is finally behind us. So whatever that date it is, it will be a date, really, of celebration, I think, because it allows us to move forward and have the clarity that this program needs and that our players need and that our coaches need.”

Bjork added that he’s worked on this NCAA case for all but four months of his Ole Miss tenure, and is ready to move on. But he reiterated that the only basis for projecting the date is based on the NCAA’s history.
