Steve Spurrier says he called Bob Stoops about Florida job

As an ambassador at Florida, part of Steve Spurrier’s job these days is apparently helping the athletics department in the search for a new head football coach.
One of the names that has surfaced is former Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops, who was also a defensive coordinator under Spurrier when they both coached in Gainesville. While many regard Stoops as a long shot because they believe he really is done with coaching, Spurrier, at least, believes in kicking the tires.
On Wednesday, Spurrier was on FoxSports Radio’s ‘Outkick the Coverage’ with Clay Travis where he was asked if he has reached out to Stoops for the Florida job.
“Oh, I called him and said if you want this job, we’ll put your name in the pot,” Spurrier said lightheartedly. “He hasn’t called back yet. I don’t know if he got the message or not. But, I seriously doubt that Bobby wants to do it again, but that certainly would be his call. If he wanted to, I’m sure there are a lot schools that would love to have him.”
The Heisman Trophy winner in 1966 as the Gators quarterback, Spurrier later was Florida’s head coach where he collected a 122-27-1 record, including the national title in 1996.
