While Week 12 yielded few surprises, the 11 prior weeks certainly did. Why stick by some stale old predictions? We like our chances better predicting it as we go …

Which means here we are, predicting one final game of the SEC regular season. Here’s our final chance to prove that our prognostication, like fine wine, is improving as the season ages.

SEC West

Alabama: 12-0

So now we’re down to just the most anticipated game of the SEC season. Auburn could pull this off, but how can you pick against the champ?

Arkansas: 4-8

If a perfect storm in Week 12 didn’t yield a victory, it’s hard to assume one for Week 13.

Auburn: 9-3

Could the Tigers have been that ugly LSU loss away from being the two-loss gate crasher of the CFP? Very possibly. A season with a win over Georgia and losses only to Clemson and Alabama might have done it.

LSU: 9-3

A&M is capable of upsetting LSU, but given the Tigers’ performance down the stretch, it would take a better opponent for us to pick against LSU.

Mississippi State: 9-3

Jordan Ta’amu could make State’s life difficult, but they’re the clear Egg Bowl favorite.

Ole Miss: 5-7

Recall what State did to Ole Miss in last year’s Egg Bowl. This defense is capable of playing better, but probably not enough better to change the outcome.

Texas A&M: 7-5

This week’s matchup with LSU could really go any of a hundred different ways, but A&M hasn’t shown us enough lately to earn the pick here.

SEC East

Florida: 4-7

Still like the Seminoles over the Gators, but Randy Shannon deserves credit for getting a pulse out of this UF team.

Georgia: 11-1

Tech’s option stuff is weird, but it’s hard to imagine the Jackets being much more successful in this matchup than Kentucky was.

Kentucky: 7-5

We had UK beating Louisville, but the two teams’ relative performances this weekend have us talked out of it. UK has a puncher’s chance, but can’t repeat its inability to cash in on potential breaks from the Georgia game.

Missouri: 7-5

Wish we could say we saw this coming. Actually, our preseason predictions were probably closer to this than our Week 4 or so predictions. Most improved team over the course of the SEC season.

South Carolina: 8-4

Nothing on this team to make us think they upset Clemson. Rivalry games can be funny, but we doubt that this one is that funny.

Tennessee: 5-7

The Vols still look awful, it’s hard to imagine a team looking worse than Vandy right now.

Vanderbilt: 4-8

The only thing worse than Vandy and UT for a bowl spot? Vandy and UT with no possible bowl spot. If you combined Vandy’s start with Mizzou’s finish, you’d have a new second-place team in the East. Of course, if you went the other way around, you’d have a bad FCS team.
