Dabo Swinney certainly knows a thing or two about the Iron Bowl, but he made one interesting comparison to the rivalry Tuesday.

Swinney played at Alabama as a WR from 1990-92 before going on to coach with the Crimson Tide from 1993-2000. He definitely has seen the Iron Bowl up close and has first-hand experience to the intense matchup.

Many of those involved with the rivalry between the Tide and Tigers claim the rivalry as the best in college football. It definitely is one game that traditionally features strong teams playing for bragging rights and an opportunity to play in the SEC Championship Game. It is usually hard to find another rivalry game with as much on the line as the Iron Bowl.

Nevertheless, Swinney, now head coach at Clemson, used the Iron Bowl for comparison when discussing the annual rivalry between Clemson and South Carolina. He believes the game between the Gamecocks and Tigers is essentially equal to the Auburn-Alabama game:

It is an interesting claim by Swinney. A lot is traditionally on the line when Auburn and Alabama meet and is the case once again this year. The winner will head to the SEC Championship Game where a win would likely mean a trip to the Playoff. On the other hand, the loser of the game will not have another chance to impress the committee before a final decision on the Playoff is made.

Clemson is still playing for a lot this season with a No. 2 ranking in the Playoff, but South Carolina is mainly playing for bragging rights at this point. At 8-3, South Carolina cannot reach the SEC Championship and does not have a shot at making the Playoff.

In terms of stakes on the line, the Iron Bowl is tough to beat.
