Dan Mullen has given another one of Butch Jones’ former Tennessee staff members a home in Gainesville.

After landing cornerbacks coach Carlton Warren soon after being named Florida’s coach, the Gators have just announced the addition of Larry Scott to the staff as tight ends coach. Scott replaces Ja’Juan Seider. Seider officially left the program this week to join James Franklin’s Penn State staff.

In Scott, Florida is getting a South Florida native with both head coaching (on an interim basis) and coordinator experience at the SEC level. Scott is known as an excellent recruiter, particularly in the Sunshine State. He should be able to mend any fences in the region following the departure of Seider.

Scott was in Knoxville for two seasons. He was the OC in 2017 and the tight ends coach. Scott was named interim coach at Miami following the firing of Al Golden in 2015. He spent three years on staff with the Hurricanes. He also has seven years of coaching experience at USF.

In a prepared statement released by the school, Mullen offered up this statement on Scott:

“We are excited to have someone of Coach’s Scott’s coaching experience and background in the state of Florida. Larry will do a great job coaching our tight ends, which is one of the most important positions on our staff based on how we utilize that position and the flexibility they have within our offense.”
