SEC Baseball Preview: Watchability ratings for every Week 14 series (May 14-16)
By Andrew Olson
Published:
One last time, we have 8 SEC baseball series to be played. We’ve reached Week 14, the final week of the 2026 college baseball regular season. It’s the 10th and final weekend of conference series, and they will be played out from Thursday to Saturday, giving teams Sunday off before heading to Hoover, Alabama, for the SEC Tournament.
Georgia went ahead and locked up the conference title last weekend, taking some of the excitement out of the weekend ahead. There are still, of course, plenty of storylines this weekend with the NCAA Tournament’s Selection Monday coming up soon. The latest D1Baseball projections have 12 SEC teams in the field of 64, and several teams could see their seed change depending on this weekend’s outcomes.

As always in the SEC, thereโs a lot on the line every weekend. We previewed the 8 series and assigned them watchability ratings.
Arkansas at Kentucky
Two motivated teams tangle as they both seek to boost their rรฉsumรฉs:
Arkansas at a glance:
- Overall record: 34-18
- Road record: 8-5
- SEC record: 15-12
- Last SEC series: 2-1 vs. Oklahoma
- RPI: No. 27
Kentucky at a glance:
- Overall record: 30-18
- Home record: 19-6
- SEC record: 12-15
- Last SEC series: 1-2 at Florida
- RPI: No. 33
Taking just a quick glance at their rรฉsumรฉs, Arkansas and Kentucky don’t look all that far apart. The Razorbacks have a better conference record by 3 games and are 6 spots ahead in RPI. This weekend, though, the Hogs and Cats are in completely different spots.
Arkansas is making a push to host an NCAA Regional in Fayetteville. In the latest D1Baseball projections, the Razorbacks check in as the No. 19 national seed. It might be too much ground for the Hogs to make up if the selection committee is thinking similarly, but a sweep would make things interesting heading to Hoover.
Kentucky, meanwhile, is fighting to make the field of 64. D1Baseball has the Cats as one of the Last Four In when it comes to the bracket. The Wildcats have 12 SEC wins, and probably need at least 1 more this weekend. If UK fails to win 1 and instead gets swept, the pressure will be on for the Bat Cats to make a deep run in Hoover.

Mississippi State at Texas A&M
A ranked series that checks every box:
Mississippi State at a glance:
- Overall record: 38-14
- Road record: 9-5
- SEC record: 15-12
- Last SEC series: 1-2 vs. Auburn
- RPI: No. 11
Texas A&M at a glance:
- Overall record: 37-12
- Home record: 25-5
- SEC record: 16-10
- Last SEC series:1-2 at Ole Miss
- RPI: No. 10
Mississippi State has been one of the hardest teams to figure out this season. The Bulldogs started hot in March, but April was a rollercoaster ride that included back-to-back sweeps at Dudy Noble Field by Georgia and Tennessee.
MSU got back in the win column by sweeping South Carolina and LSU to close out the month, also winning the midweek Ole Miss clash in Pearl. Since then, however, the Diamond Dawgs are 2-4 against Texas and Auburn.
Texas A&M can’t win the regular-season title, but the Aggies won’t lack for motivation this weekend. Michael Earley’s team is currently projected as the No. 8 overall national seed by D1Baseball.
Landing a top-8 seed means A&M controls whether it hosts a Super Regional at Olsen Field, where it has a 25-5 record. The Aggies don’t want to slide to No. 9 or 10 just because they couldn’t handle Mississippi State at home.
The RPIs of these teams are Nos. 10 and 11. Both are postseason-bound, but this is one of the series that should have Super Regional vibes this weekend.
SDS watchability rating: Over the wall
South Carolina at Vanderbilt
Two proud programs end their seasons of struggles with a whimper:
South Carolina at a glance:
- Overall record: 22-31
- Road record: 4-11
- SEC record: 7-20
- Last SEC series: 0-3 vs. Alabama
- RPI: No. 119
Vanderbilt at a glance:
- Overall record: 29-24
- Home record: 23-8
- SEC record: 11-16
- Last SEC series: 1-2 at Mizzou
- RPI: No. 74
For South Carolina, the 2026 season can’t be over soon enough. The Paul Mainieri error ended in March, but things didn’t get any better for the Gamecocks under interim head coach Monte Lee. They’re limping badly to the finish line with a 9-game losing streak that includes back-to-back sweeps by LSU and Alabama.
Vanderbilt has 11 SEC wins this season. Even though the Commodores could get to 14 this weekend, they’re not considered to be on the radar for an NCAA Tournament at-large bid.
For motivation purposes, Tim Corbin may tell his team it can sweep its way into the field of 64. For entertainment purposes, the SEC Network+ broadcast may make a case that Vandy should be on the bubble. The experts, though, say the Vandy Boys are only playing in June if they win the SEC Tournament and earn the automatic bid.

Ole Miss at Alabama
An old SEC West rivalry features 2 teams making a push before Selection Monday:
Ole Miss at a glance:
- Overall record: 35-18
- Road record: 6-8
- SEC record: 14-13
- Last SEC series: 2-1 vs. Texas A&M
- RPI: No. 13
Alabama at a glance:
- Overall record: 35-17
- Home record: 21-5
- SEC record: 16-11
- Last SEC series: 3-0
- RPI: No. 6
With the title race over and these 2 teams locks to make the NCAA Tournament, it’s all about their seeds right now. Those who follow this series should be treated to some great baseball.
As a 14-13 conference record indicates, it’s been an up-and-down year for Ole Miss. The Rebels went through a bit of a rough patch with recent series losses to Georgia and Arkansas. Taking 2 from Texas A&M, though, turned heads.
The Rebels hold the No. 13 RPI entering this weekend. D1Baseball has Mike Bianco’s club as the No. 18 overall seed in its latest projections. Win the series, and Ole Miss would have a solid case for entering the top 16 and hosting an Oxford Regional.
Alabama is one of the hottest teams in the conference with back-to-back sweeps. Granted, the 6 wins were over struggling Vandy and South Carolina teams, but back-to-back sweeps are always impressive.
UA has had a strong RPI all year and currently checks in at No. 6. The 16-11 record in SEC play puts the Crimson Tide firmly in the picture for a top-8 national seed, meaning Alabama could control whether a Tuscaloosa Regional leads to a Tuscaloosa Super Regional.
Which of these familiar foes gets to send one last boost to the selection committee before the postseason? The series winner will be riding high heading to Hoover.

Mizzou at Texas
In a bit of a role reversal, Mizzou tries to make it back-to-back series wins, while Texas is in bounce-back mode:
Mizzou at a glance:
- Overall record: 23-27
- Road record: 3-12
- SEC record: 6-21
- Last SEC series: 2-1 vs. Vanderbilt
- RPI: No. 123
Texas at a glance:
- Overall record: 37-12
- Home record: 26-4
- SEC record: 16-10
- Last SEC series: 1-2 at Tennessee
- RPI: No. 4
It’s been a rough few years for the Mizzou baseball team, but plenty of people in the college baseball world were talkin’ bout the Tigers when MU took 2 of 3 from Vanderbilt, a series outcome that likely knocked the Commodores out of at-large consideration.
Mizzou has 1 other series win this year, taking 2 of 3 at Kentucky in early April. After the UK series, MU was swept at home by South Carolina. This time, it’s a road trip to Austin that follows the series victory.
The Tigers have an ugly 3-12 record on the road this year, not encouraging when facing a Texas squad that’s 26-4 at home.
Even without the SEC title race, the Longhorns still have plenty to play for. They have that great RPI (No. 4), but the Horns are down to the No. 6 seed in the latest D1Baseball projections.
It would be hard to imagine Texas falling out of the top-8 host spots, but Jim Schlossnagle’s team can’t mess around this weekend. There are plenty of teams hoping to sneak into the top 8 if the Horns stumble.
SDS watchability rating: Seeing-eye single
Florida at LSU
A rare meeting outside the national spotlight between the long-time rivals:
Florida at a glance:
- Overall record: 34-18
- Road record: 11-5
- SEC record: 15-12
- Last SEC series: 2-1 vs. Kentucky
- RPI: No. 12
LSU at a glance:
- Overall record: 29-24
- Home record: 23-11
- SEC record: 9-18
- Last SEC series: 0-3 at Georgia
- RPI: No. 57
Three years ago, Florida and LSU played for the national championship. This series won’t have quite that level of national interest.
The Gators are one of the most challenging teams to figure out. They have some great wins. They also have their share of head-scratching losses, particularly in midweek games at home. UF has been seen as an NCAA Tournament lock for a while now, but it’s far from certain where it lands in the seeding.
Florida is currently projected as the No. 10 overall seed, a bit shy of a coveted top-8 seed. The Gators might get in the conversation with a sweep in Baton Rouge, but they notably went 1-5 against Alabama and Texas A&M, 2 of the teams ahead of them in the SEC standings (and seed projections).
For LSU, it’s looking like the reigning national champion won’t get to defend its title. Even if the Tigers sweep the Gators, they still would need to win it all in Hoover, a daunting task for a team that has won only a third of its conference games all season.
For the past few months, there was an expectation that LSU would flip a switch like it did in 2024 and finish strong over the final weeks to make the field of 64. It simply didn’t happen for Jay Johnson’s squad, which has dealt with injuries among other issues. Things are bad when the skipper himself publicly says he made mistakes in roster construction.
For so many years, Florida vs. LSU has been a can’t-miss series for college baseball fans. The Gators are hoping to improve their seed, but there isn’t much else to interest outside fans this time.

Tennessee at Oklahoma
An intriguing matchup of tourney-bound teams looking to close strong:
Tennessee at a glance:
- Overall record: 35-18
- Road record: 5-7
- SEC record: 13-14
- Last SEC series: 2-1 vs. Texas
- RPI: No. 32
Oklahoma at a glance:
- Overall record: 31-18
- Home record: 19-7
- SEC record: 13-14
- Last SEC series: 1-2 at Arkansas
- RPI: No. 19
There were numerous times this season that Tennessee didn’t look like an NCAA Tournament team. Being swept by Vandy and then going 1-2 against LSU was rough, but the outlook changed with a huge sweep of Mississippi State in Starkville.
Frustrating the Big Orange faithful, UT has had a tough time having success in consecutive weekends. The MSU sweep was followed by going 1-2 at home against Ole Miss. Similarly, the Vols went 1-2 against Kentucky after a big series win over Alabama.
Taking the Texas series in upset fashion has secured a tournament bid for the Vols. It will be interesting to see if the recent pattern continues, or if Tennessee can finally put together back-to-back series wins for some momentum heading into the postseason.
Oklahoma also seems to be settled in its tournament tier. The Sooners have the No. 19 RPI, and will be among the top-32 national seeds. They’ll almost certainly be outside the top-16, though, with 14 conference losses already.
OU has dropped its last 3 series. The Sooners could use the momentum and morale boost that comes with a series victory.
SDS watchability rating: Hard-hit ball down the line
Georgia at Auburn
A potential Omaha preview on The Plains:
Georgia at a glance:
- Overall record: 41-11
- Road record: 10-3
- SEC record: 21-6
- Last SEC series: 3-0 vs. LSU
- RPI: No. 15
Auburn at a glance:
- Overall record: 35-16
- Home record: 20-8
- SEC record: 16-11
- Last SEC series: 2-1 at Mississippi State
- RPI: No. 2
If the SEC title were still hanging in the balance, this would probably be the most exciting series of the season. With Georgia having clinched the conference title, the next 3 outcomes don’t carry a lot of weight, but great baseball is sure to be played at Plainsman Park.
The only thing (pardon the pun) dogging Georgia is RPI. UGA is at No. 15 nationally, raising some seeding questions. It would be nothing short of criminal if the NCAA Tournament selection committee seeded UGA outside the top 8, regardless of RPI.
The Bulldogs did not play a difficult nonconference schedule. They more than made up for that, though, by going 9-3 in road games against Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Arkansas and Ole Miss.
UGA is projected as the No. 3 seed in the latest D1Baseball projections, and that feels about right for a 40-win SEC champion. When it comes to seed consideration, Georgia’s impressive body of work overrules RPI.
Auburn has been one of the hottest teams in the SEC for the past month. If not for a 1-5 stretch in March against Texas and Alabama, the Tigers are likely fighting for a piece of the conference title this weekend. Since the calendar turned to April, Auburn has made fools of any doubters, winning 5 SEC series in a row.
Some of those series wins came on the road in tough environments like Starkville and College Station, but AU is particularly strong at home. The Tigers haven’t dropped a home series since March 22, when Texas won a rubber game.
Both teams are solidly top-8 national seeds regardless of outcomes, which cools the national hype a bit this weekend. But, for college baseball fans, think of it as a College World Series dress rehearsal in a Super Regional atmosphere. These are 2 national championship contenders playing a best-of-3 series, and they happen to be long-time rivals.
