Alabama S Deionte Thompson was charged with assault stemming from an incident that took place in Texas in March of 2017.

Thompson’s trial was originally set to begin on Oct. 8 of this year, but that has been postponed indefinitely, according to the latest report.

Per 247Sports, Thompson has been granted a continuance in his case, as the defense counsel is out of town:

According to a motion of continuance filed last Tuesday by the attorney for Alabama safety Deionte Thompson in the 122nd Judicial Court in Galveston County, Texas, a jury trial previously set for Thompson’s felony assault case on Oct. 8 has been postponed until “some future date” due to defense counsel being out of town.

Per the motion, “[Defense] Counsel has discussed this with Assistant District Attorney, James Haugh, who has agreed with this continuance.”

With 19 tackles so far this season, Thompson is behind only Xavier McKinney for the most on the Crimson Tide defense. He also has a team-leading two interceptions.

His court case will proceed at a later date, but it remains to be seen if it will be rescheduled for during the football season or not.
