The Washington State Cougars saw their season derailed last weekend when they lost to rival Washington in an Apple Cup blizzard.

Sadly, that sort of weather does not bode well for Mike Leach’s Air Raid offense, so the Coogs’ second loss was a tough one, as it kept them out of the Pac-12 title game.

Now, Washington is going to the Rose Bowl, and the Cougars have been relegated to an Alamo Bowl appearance against Iowa State. It’s safe to say AD Pat Chun is not happy about it. Per ESPN, Chun ripped the College Football Playoff committee for how the Cougars were ranked:

“We can easily infer that where we’re ranked is a result of maybe the perception of the league,” Chun said.

“We’re very disappointed with where we ended up being ranked. We believe, as a 10-win team in Power 5 league, the manner in which our two losses came, statistically how we match up with the other teams in the same cluster as us, we believed our résumé ranked perhaps higher than where the committee thought it was, but they are empowered to make those decisions. We’ll respect those decisions.

“We are not happy with where we’re ranked, but we’re ecstatic to be in the Alamo Bowl.”

Obviously, Chun thinks the Coogs deserved more, and it’s tough to argue with him. It was a special season for Leach and his team.

Outside of a questionable targeting penalty and a loss in a blizzard, this team could have been 12-0 (or even 13-0) and in the field of four.
