The 20th century ended on a high note for Ole Miss football fans.

With Duke playing in this year’s Independence Bowl, Blue Devils coach David Cutcliffe was asked to share his favorite memory of the bowl game. For Cutcliffe, it’s the finish to Ole Miss’ 27-25 win over Oklahoma in 1999. As he points out, with the game wrapping up around 11 p.m. central time on Dec. 31, it was likely the last college football game played in the 20th century. The win over Bob Stoops’ Sooners made Ole Miss 8-4 for the ’99 season.

Cutcliffe took the Rebels to the Independence Bowl again in 2002, and beat Nebraska, but the field-goal finish of ’99 appears to be the game he remembers more fondly.
