Prior to the start of Tuesday night’s Sugar Bowl, Texas mascot Bevo was set to meet with Georgia mascot Uga.

That meeting did not go well, as Bevo charged through his gate and nearly trampled the beloved Bulldogs mascot (and some photographers and other people on the sidelines).

Though it sure looked like Bevo charged at Uga, Bevo’s handler spoke with the Associated Press after the game and said there was no malicious intent from the longhorn:

“He had kind of gone up and bumped the barricade a few times before,” he said. “It was really just kind of unfortunate timing that Uga was there. He didn’t even know Uga was there and I don’t think Uga knew Bevo was there. All he could see was the Sugar Bowl banner. … It was really more unfortunate timing. He wasn’t aware Georgia’s mascot was there at all. It had nothing to do with the dog.”

So there you have it. Bevo was just agitated by the fencing and the atmosphere, not by Uga.
