Former Tennessee assistant Rob Lanier was named the new head coach at Georgia State Friday.
He spent the previous four seasons coaching under Rick Barnes at Tennessee, after having previously served under Barnes at Texas.
Georgia State will be Lanier’s second stint as a head coach. He previously was the head coach at Sienna from 2001-2005, and he led the Saints to the NCAA Tournament.
After accepting the Georgia State head coaching job, Lanier sent out a classy tweet for Tennessee.
I’ve been a college basketball coach for 29 years. The 4 we have spent in Tennessee have been the greatest experience of my career. The University, the people and the community have made this a home for our family. Not sure what the criteria is for VFL status. Hope we qualify…
