There’s a joke in here somewhere about teams from Orlando claiming a championship, right?

On Friday, Steve Spurrier received some new hardware for his crowded trophy case.

When the AAF officially folded this spring, Spurrier told reporters that he thought his team, the Orlando Apollos, were the league champions.

“We’re all disappointed, but on the other side, we’re the champs, right?” Spurrier told reporters in Orlando. “We’re 7–1 and the next teams are 5–3… The players have had wonderful attitudes, and the effort level they’ve played with has been very rewarding for me and the coaching staff. We started the season wanting to win the Alliance championship, and if they declare a champ, hopefully these guys will be declared the champ, because they certainly are deserving.”

Fast-forward to Friday night, the now-debunked AAF’s Apollos presented Spurrier with a custom championship ring, and Spurrier showed it off on social media.

Spurrier attended SEC Media Days this week, and his visit with the media provided some of the most entertaining moments of the event.

Will this be the last hardware Spurrier receives for football in his illustrious career? Never count the Ol’ Ball Coach out of anything, especially coaching.
