The Dallas Cowboys have hired a college coach before, and it appears they may be deciding between two prominent coaches this time around as it looks to be increasingly likely they will move away from Jason Garrett as coach after the regular season.

Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley and former Ohio State and Florida coach turned FOX Sports broadcaster Urban Meyer have been discussed for weeks as possible, or even probable candidates. Much of it is pinned on their success in college, working with QBs like Dak Prescott, and other key players already on the Cowboys’ roster. But it ultimately comes down to personnel decisions, and if owner/general manager Jerry Jones will allow them much power in those decisions.

The “Get Up” crew on ESPN, including Emmanuel Acho weighed in on this topic, and said Meyer has won more than Riley, and he has a recipe to that success.

“Jerry Jones ain’t going to let you be the chef,” he said. “He’s going to come in there and (say), ‘Huh, let’s add some more salt to that, Urban, let’s add some pepper, how about some parsley.’ Urban’s going to be like, ‘Chill, I got this.’ … This shouldn’t be Urban, not a good recipe.”

Acho added that it doesn’t appear that Riley is going to win a national championship, although Mike Greenberg pointed out that Oklahoma has reached three straight College Football Playoffs.

“Look what he can do with quarterbacks, Dak Prescott, Zeke, Amari,” Acho said. “They have the pieces, now you just need a conductor, Lincoln’s the perfect conductor.”

Greenberg also added that Jones didn’t make it work with two “all-time great coaches” in Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells.
