During Saturday’s game between Auburn and Tennessee at Auburn Arena, Tennessee PG Santiago Vescovi was subjected to a xenophobic chant from a member of the Auburn crowd.

As you can hear in the video below, someone was caught on the TV broadcast yelling “Go back to Uruguay. This is America,” toward the Uruguayan point guard:

After the game, Tom Green of AL.com reported that the Auburn student was ejected from the arena and banned from coming to future games:

An Auburn student was escorted from The Jungle and banned from Auburn Arena after making a xenophobic remark during the Tigers’ home game Saturday against Tennessee.

Coach Bruce Pearl was informed of the incident after the game and said he appreciates the way Auburn handled the situation:

“I was informed, and I appreciate the way Auburn handled it,” Pearl said. “That’s not who we are at all. This is an amazing campus with incredible students. We are diverse and welcoming. I have nothing but respect for Santiago’s game. That one person does not speak for the whole Auburn family.”

Tennessee coach Rick Barnes said he didn’t know anything about the situation during the game, but added that he too was happy with the quick resolution by Auburn.
