South Carolina never got a chance to play in the 2020 SEC Tournament but that’s something Frank Martin can live with considering the risks his team and their loved ones could have been put had the event gone on as planned.

The Gamecocks made their way to Nashville this week and were set to play the late game on Thursday against Arkansas before the SEC pulled the plug on the tournament in the morning. That news came after several other leagues did the same and before the NCAA canceled the entire college basketball season due to the coronavirus outbreak.

After returning home to Columbia, Martin expressed his thoughts on the SEC’s decision to cancel the tournament before his Gamecocks had the opportunity to compete in the event.

“It’s an unbelievable unknown and any time there’s an unknown, it’s better to be safe than sorry,” Martin said following the wild events of Thursday.
