Earlier this week, the Division II and Division III fall championships were canceled. A number of FCS conferences had also decided to postpone fall sports.

Now, the first FBS conference has reportedly decided to cancel its football season, making huge news on Saturday morning.

Per reports from Brett McMurphy, Pete Thamel and others, the MAC has decided to cancel football after losing almost all of its “buy” games with Power 5 schools:

Football is an expensive sport to play for many non-Power 5 programs, who count on being paid to visit Power 5 schools.

As Thamel tweeted, the spring option is being explored for the MAC, but it remains to be seen if that will lead anywhere or not.
