Remember all those preseason SEC predictions? We don’t either. Instead, we’re going to tell you how the SEC will shake out … starting now, after Week 1. It’s like mulligans for journalism, gang. Jump on board, and here’s a ride through our new and improved SEC record predictions.

Alabama: 10-0

Georgia and Auburn are home games, and the Tide’s road schedule couldn’t look much more favorable. Sure, the West on the whole got much more interesting (hello, Mississippi schools), but until somebody shows they’re better, we’re all in on the Tide.

Arkansas: 0-10

Yes, the Hogs were better than most of us thought. But unfortunately, other than a game at Mizzou, there aren’t a ton of winnable games on the schedule. Maybe the Humanitarian Bowl will put a post-season cherry on their season?

Auburn: 7-3

At Georgia and Bama are tough games to call as wins. We’d guess there’s another loss in there somewhere, but not necessarily.

Florida: 9-1

Their West schedule stacks up pretty well, and given the vulnerability of the rest of the East, there aren’t too many teams in the division that look likely to give the Gators much of a game.

Georgia: 8-2

At this point, Florida seems to be the likely winner of the East, but that will very much be in UGA’s hands, and a strong performance next week against Auburn could start an alternative narrative.

Kentucky: 5-5

There are plenty of mistakes for the Wildcats to clean up if they want to play any meaningful role in the East. The Mississippi schools look pretty formidable over the next 2 weeks.

LSU: 6-4

Yes, we thought they’d do better than this, but if you don’t win at home against Mississippi State, it’s hard to see a meaningful role in the West in your future.

Mississippi State: 6-4

It can’t really be that easy, can it? This game felt like something of a perfect storm, with the LSU secondary in disarray, and the LSU offense struggling to create any kind of identity. Might not be too early to start the Mike Leach for SEC Coach of the Year hype train, though.

Missouri: 3-7

Happy to have Vandy and Arkansas on the schedule, the Tigers stand to pick off one more team … but probably won’t have a shot at very many more.

Ole Miss: 3-7

Arkansas and Vandy look like wins, and we’d guess there’s another one out there. On the other hand, win at Kentucky this coming week, and 5-5 might well be in play.

South Carolina: 3-7

A likely 1-4 first half of the season stands to leave the Gamecocks’ struggling to justify Will Muschamp’s continued employment. Most paths to a decent season required a home win over Tennessee.

Tennessee: 5-5

Looks like it probably will come back to the Vols and Kentucky playing for 3rd in the East. Feels like a big gap between UF and UGA and then everybody else.

Texas A&M: 5-5

Given the uptick of the Mississippi schools and just how sloppy the Aggies were against Vandy, they join LSU in the list of teams that we’re suddenly not so high on. With likely losses to Bama and Florida looming, a game at Mississippi State on Oct. 17 suddenly looks pretty significant.

Vanderbilt: 1-9

Look, we’re not sure who, but it feels like they’ll catch somebody napping. They left themselves a decent chance against A&M until the final minutes.
