Nearly two weeks ago, Alabama RB Trey Sanders was hospitalized after being injured in a car accident.

Sanders, from Port St. Joe, Florida, was back home while the Crimson Tide was on a scheduled bye week. Reporters in the Florida panhandle shared that Sanders had to be life-flighted to a nearby hospital. Other details have gradually trickled out as Sanders returned to the UA facility in a wheelchair.

On his Thursday night radio show, Saban shared more details about what happened to the redshirt freshman running back.

โ€œHe got T-boned in his car. He wasnโ€™t driving, but they were just pulling out to go across an intersection and he got hit on his side,โ€ Saban said. โ€œWeโ€™re thankful. Heโ€™s got some very serious injuries, but everything has worked out very well. I think heโ€™ll make a full recovery, but this is probably gonna be a several month type thing. He had a hip injury, but not the same kind that Tua had, so there shouldnโ€™t be any question about his recovery.

โ€œWe feel very fortunate.โ€

The driver Saban is referring to is Trey’s older brother Umstead Sanders. Umstead played linebacker at Florida before transferring to Jacksonville State.

A former 5-star recruit in the class of 2019, Trey Sanders missed his true freshman season after suffering an injury during fall camp. This season, Sanders has appeared in 4 games, recording 30 rushes for 134 yards. He also has a 17-yard kickoff return.
