Georgia coach Kirby Smart spent several years working under Nick Saban at Alabama. He was on the Crimson Tide staff from 2007 to 2015, so he was part of a few national championship-winning squads.

But, as Georgia prepares for the Peach Bowl, Smart was looking back at his time in Tuscaloosa during a recent podcast appearance.

He was asked about his favorite Alabama memory, and he named the BCS National Championship Game victory over LSU after the 2011 season (via 247Sports):

“Probably LSU the rematch (national title) game,” Smart said on the All Things Covered podcast. “One of the most memorable games I’ve ever seen where you just lost 9-6. And we had to turn around and play ’em about a month later. And we shut ’em out in Louisiana, in the Sugar Bowl, and shut them down and beat them. It was actually Jordan Jefferson, he was the quarterback. So it was a hell of a game, but that’s probably my most memorable just cause you get a shutout in college football, it’s unheard of.”

As you’ll recall, Alabama won that game 21-0 in what many called one of the most boring title games ever.

For Smart, though, it was probably pretty exciting, since he was Alabama’s defensive coordinator. Nothing a defensive coordinator likes more than a shutout!
