The most important button for a referee during a football game is the on-off switch on his microphone. But in an FCS game on Saturday, the referee forgot about that button as the teams went to the locker room for halftime.

Because of COVID-19-related schedule delays, FCS teams are playing football this spring, and that includes the North Dakota Fighting Hawks and the Southern Illinois Salukis, who squared off on Saturday.

As players left the field, the ref was heard on the public address system very disgruntled and frustrated with his equipment. He vented his frustrations, but he forgot one to turn off his microphone.

As for the game, Tommy Schuster threw three touchdown passes, Otis Weah had 91 yards rushing and a score, and North Dakota beat Southern Illinois, 44-21, in a Missouri Valley Football Conference spring season opener at Grand Forks, N.D., according to the Pantagraph.

North Dakota poured on 21 points in the third quarter to pull away. The defense helped too, with five turnovers that led to 27 of UND’s 44 points. Evan Holm and Sammy Fort came down with interceptions in the second half and a trio of fumbles in the first half helped hold the vaunted Saluki rushing attack to just 90 yards on 35 carries.
