With Jimbo Fisher now under contract through the 2031 season, Texas A&M’s leadership is in place for the next decade. But that stability didn’t come without a hefty price.

The school announced the terms of Fisher’s new contract on Wednesday. The head coach’s contract that was already in place was extended by 4 years. His annual salary will be $9 million beginning Jan. 1, 2022, then will be increased to $9.15 million on Jan. 1, 2023.

From there, Fisher’s base salary will increase by $100,000 every Jan. 1 through the end of the contract. His performance incentives that were included in his original deal remain in place.

“I have great respect for Coach Fisher and his success with our student athletes,” Texas A&M President Kathy Banks said in a statement. “His ability to bring out the best in each of them is inspirational. I am confident that he will continue to raise Texas A&M University’s football program to new heights.”

The announcement of Fisher’s new contract comes only 3 days before the start of his fourth season leading the Aggies. He’s already had plenty of success since joining the program prior to the 2018 campaign, as he’s led Texas A&M to a 26-10 record during that time.

In 2020, Fisher had his best season with the Aggies yet, as they went 9-1 and won the Orange Bowl. Now, they’ll look to keep building off that.

Texas A&M and Kent State will open the season at Kyle Field on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
