Ed Orgeron is one of the few active coaches who have experience and knowledge of what it’s like to be the head coach at USC, even on an interim basis.

On the SEC coaches media teleconference on Wednesday, Orgeron reacted to a question about the job being open since the school parted ways with former coach Clay Helton on Monday.

“One of the top jobs in the country,” Orgeron said. “It’s a great job, great tradition. I enjoyed my 11 years there. … It should be a great job for someone, but I’ll tell you what — ain’t nothing like coaching the LSU Tigers.”

Orgeron went 6-2 as USC’s interim head coach in 2013, as he took over a USC team that stumbled to a 3-2 mark over the first 5 games of the year for a team that also had Lane Kiffin as the coach, and Helton was on the staff. Orgeron rallied the Trojans as USC closed out the regular season with wins in 6 of its final 8 games.

Orgeron originally joined the Tiger staff in 2015 as defensive line coach, before he became recruiting coordinator in the spring of 2016.
