Florida’s coaching search may come to an end sooner rather than later, as the Gators play FSU Saturday.

A new coach could potentially be hired as early as Sunday or Monday, and it seems the Gators have 2 primary candidates, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Pete Thamel.

“It’d be a surprise if the Gators land someone other than Iowa State’s Matt Campbell or Louisiana’s Billy Napier,” Thamel wrote in his latest coaching carousel column.

Napier has reportedly been the primary target since Dan Mullen was fired. Bob Stoops’ name had surfaced for the job, but Stoops released a strong statement on the speculation earlier this week.

The Gators also have interest in Cincinnati’s Luke Fickell; however, as Thamel writes, the Bearcats potential College Football Playoff ramifications makes it tricky to pursue Fickell.

Thamel expects Florida to move quickly, and he added, “Napier is the favorite here.”
