Oscar Tshiebwe won the Naismith Player of the Year award for his efforts this past season, averaging 17.4 points and 15. 2 rebounds per game for the Kentucky Wildcats.

He, like many other players around the country, faced a big decision this offseason about whether to return to school or enter the NBA Draft.

On Wednesday afternoon on ESPN’s SportsCenter, Tshiebwe revealed he was returning to Lexington for the 2022-23 campaign, becoming the first Player of the Year to return to school since North Carolina’s Tyler Hansbrough in 2008:

New NIL laws likely played a big part in this decision. Tshiebwe can now legally make money as a college athlete, so the pressure to turn pro as soon as possible isn’t there like it once was.

Will this extra year boost his draft stock for 2023? One thing is for certain — it makes Kentucky a heck of a lot scary entering the season.
