There is a head coaching vacancy at a college football blue blood program, so naturally, a wide array of reports of who will fill in follow. After Scott Frost was fired following a disappointing tenure at Nebraska, reports of interest from NC State coach Dave Doeren immediately poured out just a day later.

Just as naturally as those reports come out, the coach will downplay any speculation. That is exactly what Doeren did, and for good reason, as the college football season is just two weeks in.

“Dude, it’s Week 3 of the season, man,” Doeren said, via 247Sports. “I’m so fired up to coach my team this week. I’m so excited to about playing at home and coaching the Wolfpack.”

Doeren has had an impressive tenure at N.C. State with two top-25 finishes in his ten seasons. For now, he is focused on being present for the team he coaches as the Wolfpack look to compete in the ACC.

“It’s not the first time that names have been on lists and it is what it is when you talk about that,” Doreen said. “I can’t wait to get ready for this game. It’s a big one for us and a big season and a great group of guys, so that’s where my heart is.”

The Pack is 2-0 and are set to face off against a 2-0 Texas Tech team that is coming off a top-25 win over Houston.
