The matchup between Georgia and Tennessee served as a measuring stick for just how far Tennessee had come in comparison to the best of the best and while the Vols have definitely made a statement, they were stifled against Georgia on Saturday night.

Georgia had an answer for a Tennessee offense that had looked largely unstoppable to this point, coming out with the 27-13 win in Sanford Stadium.

The Vols are still in the running for a spot in the College Football Playoff even though their previously undefeated record now has a blemish on it. College football analysts Paul Finebaum and Matt Barrie recently weighed in on how they see the rest of the team’s season shaking out after this.

“I’m one of those who says you can’t go from No. 1 and be in the clear cut No. 1 (conversation) to just falling off the radar,” Barrie said.

Finebaum sees plenty of possibility remaining for Tennessee despite the loss, something that is reasonable with what the team has shown and how things could shake out with other teams in the race who face competitive schedules in the remainder of the back half of the season.

“They’re in a really good spot right now,” Finebaum said. “Their schedule is easy. They have one game on the road that matters against South Carolina… I think they got a tremendous break yesterday with Clemson getting knocked out… I think if TCU gets knocked out of this thing, they’re right back in a position to snare No. 4.”

Tennessee and Missouri are set to kick off at 11 a.m CT on Saturday in Neyland Stadium.
