Cam Ward and Xavier Restrepo found themselves and their Miami teammates on the ropes after trailing 38-18 in the 4th quarter.

But thanks to 277 yards of total offense in the fourth quarter alone, along with 3 touchdowns — including a go-ahead score with 26 seconds left that came after Ward connected with Restrepo with a 77-yard pass play to put the Hurricanes deep in Golden Bears territory — the Canes left Berkeley with a stunning 39-38 comeback win.

“(When you) take it play by play, have belief, and you’ve got the right guys on the team like we do, you can do some good stuff,” Ward said afterwards. “It feels good to get a win. We’re not going to complain. An ugly win is better than a good loss. So we made enough plays in the game, but we got to get to work.”

Restrepo, who finished with 7 catches for 163 yards, had plenty of praise for his quarterback.

“Like I told you a few weeks ago, week in and week out, when ‘1’ has the ball in his hand, the game’s never over,” he said. “We had extreme confidence in that guy, and I love and respect that guy so much. We keep on fighting.”

Miami — somehow — improved to 6-0 on the season and 2-0 in ACC play. After an open week, it next travels to Louisville.
