Duke beat Florida State 23-16 in Durham on Friday night.

It’s a historic win for the Blue Devils — their first-ever victory over Florida State in football. Duke was previously 0-20 all-time against Florida State. The victory also means that Duke is now bowl-eligible.

Both offenses struggled mightily in the first half. However, Duke took a 17-6 lead into the locker room despite averaging just 1.9 yards per play in the first half. That was mostly due to 3 turnovers by Florida State quarterback Brock Glenn that happened on consecutive plays.

It was the first time all season that an FBS program has turned the ball over on 3 consecutive plays. That sequence resulted in Glenn being benched in favor of true freshman quarterback Luke Kromenhoek.

Kromenhoek settled things down a bit for the Noles and led multiple scoring drives. However, he completed just 3-of-7 passes for 19 yards before Florida State decided to go back to Glenn for the 4th quarter.

Florida State mounted a comeback effort in the 4th quarter that was supported by a kickoff return touchdown to start the second half. But the Noles ended falling short, in-part due to another lost fumble after halftime.

Glenn finished the game 9-of-19 for 110 yards, 0 touchdowns, 2 interceptions and 1 lost fumble. FSU averaged just 4.4 yards per play on offense while Duke ended the night at 3.1 yards per play.

Florida State is now 1-6 on the season. That means the Noles would have to win out in order to make a bowl game in 2024. They still have games remaining vs. Miami, Notre Dame and Florida. FSU will play in Miami Gardens next weekend.
