Kalen DeBoer explains why he didn’t consider benching Jalen Milroe in Michigan loss
Kalen DeBoer met with reporters following Alabama’s loss to Michigan on Tuesday afternoon and addressed some questions regarding starting quarterback Jalen Milroe.
It was a rough afternoon for Milroe. He threw for just 192 yards on 32 attempts and had multiple costly turnovers in Alabama’s 19-13 loss.
Despite the rough game, DeBoer told reporters after the game that he didn’t consider making a change at quarterback. He cited Milroe’s ability as a runner as one reason, but also called out some intangibles that Milroe possesses.
“I saw, I guess, a fighter,” Kalen DeBoer said. “The fight in his eyes. And as long as I see that, I want to hang in there with the guys that this program means a lot to.”
Overall, it was a down season for Milroe compared to the numbers he put up in 2023. He saw regression in his TD-to-INT ratio as as well as his yards-per-attempt average. His passer efficiency rating also took a big dip in 2024.
Milroe’s future at Alabama beyond this game remains uncertain. He’s eligible to enter the 2025 NFL Draft or could enter the transfer portal and play next season elsewhere.
Alabama failed to win 10 games this season for the first time since 2007.
