TCU chose violence on Friday.
Well, more accurately, the Horned Frogs’ social media team. TCU plays at SMU on Saturday in a battle between a pair of 2-1 teams from the Lone Star State. It’ll be the Horned Frogs’ second matchup with an ACC opponent this season, but it’ll be their first playing on The CW Network.
They don’t seem to be too excited about that.
Friday morning, the TCU Football Twitter account shared a video that shows a player in full uniform sitting on the phone while Paula Cole’s “I Don’t Want to Wait” plays as the hold music — a song that served as the theme for Dawson’s Creek. The video is titled “one treefrog hill” in reference to another famous drama from network.
“This is SportsCenter,” it says in the video. “Well… This is CW unfortunately. Thanks ACC.”

It’s petty from TCU but the frustration is understandable. TCU’s brand is strong enough that it drew a Friday night game to open the season and then played behind the ESPN+ paywall in Week 2. It played on FOX in front of a national audience in Week 3 and blew a 31-13 lead. Whoops.
SMU hasn’t been great this season, though.
The Mustangs opened their debut season in the ACC by outlasting Nevada 29-24 and at one point benching their starting quarterback. On Friday, Sept. 6, they lost 18-15 to BYU in a game where they failed to produce a single offensive touchdown.
Now, the 103rd meeting for the Iron Skillet has lost some of its sizzle. Still, it’ll be the first time both schools are members of a Power conference. TCU is a slight favorite of 2 points (ESPN Bet) in the matchup. Kickoff is at 5 p.m. ET on the CW. The losing fanbase can use a Supernatural re-run to take the sting away.
Derek Peterson does a bit of everything, not unlike Taysom Hill. He has covered Oklahoma, Nebraska, the Pac-12, and now delivers CFB-wide content.
