Virginia Tech on Sunday welcomed a 2025 commitment to the fold, and it’s a player with plenty of existing connections to Blacksburg.

Brennan Johnson, a linebacker from Highland Springs (Va.), announced via a post on X that he had commited to the Hokies. He is the 17th player in the class for Brent Pry’s program.

Johnson has significant family ties to the Hokies. His father, Loren, was a cornerback in the 1990s under Frank Beamer and defensive coordinator Bud Foster who played on the 1995 Sugar Bowl and 1996 Orange Bowl teams. His mother, Kimberly, is a Virginia Tech graduate. And his older brother, Braylon, is currently a sophomore CB on the Hokies football team.

According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, Brennan Johnson is a 3-star recruit, the No. 134 linebacker in the country and the No. 40 recruit in the state of Virginia. In 2023, he was named the defensive player of the year in Virginia’s Class 6.

The current Hokies are 4-3 overall (2-1 in the ACC) and currently on a two-game win streak as they look to claim a second-straight bowl bid. On Thursday, they defeated Boston College 42-21. Virginia Tech next faces Georgia Tech on Saturday.
