It isn’t very often when recruits decide to renege on a commitment to Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide – especially a defensive back prospect with eyes set on playing in the NFL.

However, one of these instances unfolded on Saturday.

Junior college defensive back Jhavonte Dean announced on Twitter that he has decommitted from the program. He intends to play his college ball elsewhere:

A native of Florida, Dean had been playing at Blinn College in Texas – known mostly for being Cam Newton’s junior college. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound defensive back is said to have been clocked at 4.3 in the 40-yard dash. After taking trips to Arizona State and Miami, Dean decided to open things up.

Dean’s decision now leaves Alabama with 24 commitments from this current class. Based upon Saban’s proclivity for signing top-level prospects, the Crimson Tide will surely land a stud prospect to take Dean’s spot.
