Saturday didn’t help the SEC’s chances at landing two teams in the College Football Playoff this year.

With Georgia’s loss to LSU, it will be an uphill battle for UGA to get back into the picture. Obviously, Georgia will have to run the table and beat presumably Alabama in the SEC Championship. There’s certainly a chance that LSU could beat Alabama head-to-head, win out and land in the Playoff, leaving one-loss Alabama to get in, too. Many things would have to happen, and the conference would need help.

Four top 10 teams all lost Saturday — No. 2 Georgia, No. 6 West Virginia, No. 7 Washington and No. 8 Penn State. Following a wild Saturday, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit updated his top four teams — 1. Alabama, 2. Ohio State, 3. Clemson and 4. Notre Dame.

With Georgia’s loss, the Bulldogs fell out of the top four. Interestingly, LSU is ranked No. 5.

On Saturday, No. 1 Alabama dispatched Missouri 39-10 behind Tua Tagovailoa’s three TD passes. Ohio State took care of business against Minnesota 30-14, while Clemson had a bye. Notre Dame barely escaped Pitt 19-14.
