AJ McCarron was one of the most successful quarterbacks in college football history, guiding Alabama to three national championships during his time in Tuscaloosa.

Now a backup with the Cincinnati Bengals, McCarron made an appearance at Alabama’s practice facility this week while the Bengals are on a bye.

When asked about his thoughts on current Alabama QB Jalen Hurts, McCarron told TuscaloosaNews.com that he has loved what he’s seen from the sophomore this year:

“He’s excellent,” McCarron said. “He’s young, but he’s played great. I think he’s done what they have asked. He’s only going to get better, that’s usually how it works whenever you start playing. I’m excited for him. He’s a really good dude.”

Though McCarron said he didn’t get to spend much time with Hurts during his visit, he’s hoping to work with him more this offseason:

“I talked to (Hurts) a little bit yesterday, but not long,” McCarron said. “I just kind of said what’s up to everybody. This offseason, I plan on working with all of the quarterbacks here. So, hopefully, we’ll get to spend a lot more time together.”

Working with McCarron can only help Hurts for the future. And by the time the two star quarterbacks meet again, perhaps Hurts will have a championship ring of his own.
