This is truly awful news for A.J. McCarron and the Buffalo Bills.

During Friday night’s preseason game against the Cleveland Browns, McCarron suffered a hairline fracture to his right collarbone, according to Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News.

So, it appears that McCarron’s bid to become an everyday NFL starter will have to wait longer, and the QB battle could be down to two for the Bills: Josh Allen and Nathan Peterman. It’s unknown how long McCarron will be out.

The former Alabama QB signed a free agent deal with the Bills this off-season, and he entered the year as the favorite to win the starting job. Previously, McCarron sat behind Andy Dalton in Cincinnati for four seasons.

McCarron completed 3-of-6 passes for 12 yards against the Browns before leaving in the first quarter.
