Nunez had the title of senior special teams analyst, meaning he was not an on-field assistant able to coach during games. Per FootballScoop’s Doug Samuels, Oklahoma coach Brent Venables assigned special teams coaching responsibilities on game days to other assistants.
The analyst approach for managing special teams in practice is becoming a popular with college football teams. With the hire not yet announced, it is not clear if Nunez will be considered a special teams analyst on Kalen DeBoer’s inaugural Alabama staff.
