Nick Saban and Alabama have offered Spain Park High School quarterback Braxton Barker a chance to play for the Crimson Tide.
Barker received a preferred walk-on offer from the Tide on Monday.
Alabama fans may recognize that last name — “Barker.”
That’s right, he’s the son of Jay Barker, who was a part of the Crimson Tide’s 1992 national championship team and the SEC Player of the Year in ’94.
The elder Barker is now a morning sports radio host for Birmingham’s WJOX 94.5 FM.
Braxton Barker threw for over 2,200 yards and tossed 19 touchdown passes in high school action this season.
Spain Park coach Shawn Raney said during the season that he expected small schools to pursue the younger Barker, a report from AL.com said.
But an offer from Alabama — even as a walk-on — is pretty special, especially with all the family history there.
Barker posted this on Twitter Monday:
