Alabama fans are trying to bring back a school tradition for next week’s Iron Bowl.

Jon Adams, a student at the university, started a petition to play the song “Dixieland Delight” during the game against Auburn on Nov. 26. The fan-favorite tune has not been played in Bryant-Denny Stadium since used it to sing a vulgar chant during the 2014 Iron Bowl.

“We hold this to be one of our most precious game day songs and would like to see it return at the Iron Bowl,” the petition states. “For all of the millions of dollars we contribute to this school, we believe that requesting the reinstatement of this song into the stadium song lineup is quite minuscule.

“This is one of the greatest joys we have as students singing this song with our classmates and alumni alike.”

The petition will be sent to athletic director Bill Battle, who banned the song from all Crimson Tide sporting events shortly after the 2014 incident, and university president Dr. Stuart R. Bell.

As of Thursday afternoon, the petition had more than 1,900 supporters.
