Alabama DB Tony Brown is from the Houston area, where floods from Hurricane Harvey continue to wreak havoc.
However, Brown’s family is one of the lucky ones, as their house has not yet been flooded. Still, their entire neighborhood is blocked off and the roads surrounding it are impassable, which is bad news for Brown’s father, who is currently in a flood shelter, but is in poor health.
According to ESPN.com, coach Nick Saban said on his Thursday radio show that Alabama was having Brown’s father helicoptered to a hotel in College Station where he could continue receiving treatment.
During a Wednesday press conference, Saban said all of the Crimson Tide’s players’ families were safe from harm:
“We’re thankful that our players’ families are safe and people aren’t in harm’s way, even though some issues do occur with some of the families, which we won’t discuss here,” he said. “We’re looking for ways as a department and personally to try and assist as best as we can in terms of all victims in southeast Texas.”
In addition to getting his father the help he needs, this action by Alabama will help put Brown’s mind at ease.
Obviously, the safety of his family comes first, but now Brown will feel more comfortable preparing for Saturday’s big season-opening contest against Florida State.
That huge Week 1 matchup kicks off at 8 p.m. Eastern time and can be seen on ABC.
