Alabama added a big-time talent to its 2025 recruiting class on Tuesday afternoon.
The Crimson Tide earned a commitment from 5-star running back Akylin Dear. The Mississippi native chose the Tide over in-state options like Ole Miss and Mississippi State, as well as offers from programs like Florida, Michigan and Ohio State, amongst others.
Dear was previously committed to Ole Miss but backed off of his verbal pledge back in June.

Dear is a massive pickup for Kalen DeBoer and his staff in this cycle. He’s the No. 31 overall player and the No. 2 running back in the country for the class of 2025, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 3 player from the state of Mississippi.
Dear is listed at 6-foot-1, 200 pounds. He attends Quitman High School in Quitman, Mississippi.
Alabama is building what appears to be an elite recruiting class in this cycle. Dear is the 20th player to verbally commit to Alabama so far in the class of 2025. He’s 1 of 6 5-stars who are currently in the class, including 4 on the offensive side of the ball.
Overall, Alabama’s 2025 recruiting class ranks No. 2 nationally per 247Sports Composite rankings. Ohio State is the only program with a higher-rated class to this point in the cycle, but the Buckeyes have 4 more commitments than the Tide as of this writing. Alabama could have a chance to claim the No. 1 overall spot by the time the Early Signing Period rolls around in December.
