The Crimson Tide have gotten off to unusually slow start in recruiting for this cycle but you knew it wouldn’t be long before Alabama kicked it into high gear. The first of what will likely be many elite prospects committing to the Tide before signing day began Friday as four-star California lineman Tommy Brown gave his pledge to Alabama.

The 6-foot-6, 313-pound lineman is rated as the No. 12 offensive tackle in the nation and the No. 23 overall recruit from California according to 247Sports Composite Ratings. Brown’s commitment comes less than a week after Alabama extended a scholarship offer to the massive prospect. Brown currently holds offers from Auburn, Florida, Mississippi State, Michigan, TCU and UCLA among others.

Brown made the news official Friday with the following tweet:

Following this commitment, Alabama now has seven prospects pledged to join the 2018 recruiting class. The only prospect that does not rate as a four-star prospect is punter Skyler DeLong – who happens to be the No. 1 punter prospect in the nation.
