As the season inches closer, and a big annual milestone begins this week, SEC Media Days, Alabama is out with a new roster, and that includes 9 players who have changed jersey numbers.
Running back Jahmyr Gibbs and defensive back Terrion Arnold already shared their new numbers, but seven other players, including several at their same positions will wear new numbers. Running backs Jase McClellan (2) and Roydell Willams (5) are on the list, and McClellan’s number is because Jalen Milroe changed to No. 4, his third number.
Freshman wide receivers Aaron Anderson and Kendrick Law also moved to the teens after 15 practices in Nos. 82 and 83, respectively. Anderson will wear No. 13 in his first season at UA, while Law will sport No. 19. Four of the Tide’s five freshman wideouts will wear numbers in the teens. Offensive lineman Tyler Booker moved down two numbers from 54 to 52, and that will allow Vanderbilt grad transfer Tyler Steen to continue to wear 54 at his new school.
The changes have led to personnel adjustments, particularly for special teams.
Gibbs and Kool-Aid McKinstry cannot be on the field at the same time. The same goes for McClellan and DeMarcco Hellams, Arnold and Jermaine Burton, Smith and Louisville transfer Tyler Harrell, Anderson and Malachi Moore and Law and Keanu Koht. No other Crimson Tide player is set to wear No. 4 this fall, either.
Alabama players that changed jersey numbers:
1. Jahmyr Gibbs, RB (was 13)
2. Jase McClellan, RB (was 21)
3. Terrion Arnold, DB (was 12)
4. Jalen Milroe, QB (was 2)
5. Roydell Williams, RB (was 23)
8. DeVonta Smith, DB (was 27)
13. Aaron Anderson, WR (was 82)
19. Kendrick Law, WR (was 83)
