Alabama defensive back King Mack is reportedly jumping back into the transfer portal.

According to a report from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Mack informed Alabama coaches on Friday that he intends to leave the program. Mack transferred in last offseason from Penn State. He made appearances in all 13 games for the Crimson Tide this season and ended the year with 14 total tackles.

Mack will have 3 years to play 2 at his next school. He has appeared in 26 career games but has mostly been a special teams performer to this point in his career.

According to Pro Football Focus, Mack saw 106 defensive snaps this season. Most of his work came in the slot but he also provided run support in the box. His most extensive playing time on defense came against Tennessee. He played 38 snaps that day and finished with the poorest defensive grade (34.5) of any game all season.

Mack played sparingly from that point on. However, he did make 2 tackles in the bowl game against Michigan on Dec. 31.

The decision to re-enter the transfer portal came just hours after Alabama parted ways with safeties coach Colin Hitschler. At least 1 Crimson Tide defender was happy about that decision. As coach Kalen DeBoer tweaks his staff following Year 1 in Tuscaloosa, more change might be one the way.

Mack becomes the fifth Alabama player to enter the transfer portal following Tuesday’s bowl game. He would have been a candidate to start at the Husky position next season but will now look elsewhere. Alabama’s safety group figures to be led by Keon Sabb, Bray Hubbard, and Zavier Mincey. DaShawn Jones started at the Husky spot in the bowl game.
