After a spring back in Tuscaloosa, Shyheim Carter is returning to the NFL.

The former Alabama defensive back worked on Nick Saban’s staff as a graduate assistant this spring. Earlier this month, he got an invite to the Houston Texans minicamp on a tryout basis.

It was a successful camp for Carter, who is being signed by the Texans. It will be his second go in the NFL. He initially signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent and also spent time on the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad.

Carter was Alabama’s starting nickel in the secondary for the 2018 and ’19 seasons. He made 86 total tackles those seasons, including 6 for a loss. He also logged 17 passes defended, including 3 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles.
